Business Support

I’m a career environmental health professional with many years of experience in business development focussed on the hospitality and leisure sector. My career started in the military, supporting the health of troops before moving on to qualify as a Environmental Health Officer at Manchester City Council. The role was to support the public and environment health of residents and workers through regulatory licensing, inspections and law enforcement. My life in business started with a commercial role at Trusthouse Forte looking after the health of guests and customers through hotel and catering advice and staff training. I spent 20 years developing my own consultancy business which grew to employ 35 staff with clients at home and internationally. I successfully sold the company in 2007 and have been able to broaden my involvement in private and public life.

My Business Support Role

Supporting businesses grow is key to getting our economy back on track after years of recession. I am Commercial Chairman of the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health and also Chairman of EHT Inc Orlando. The CIEH is the largest provider of accredited training products with operations in the USA (EHT Inc) and in Dubai.

I promote entrepreneurship in young people through lectures and competition judging. Regular events include:

  • Christmas lectures at Kingswood School for 6th formers and the University of Bath Chemical Engineer undergraduates
  • Judging the Nestle Toque d’Or, a college culinary skills competition, next year will be 20 years of judging support
  • CIEH events are hosting a Geoff’s “masterclass” on running as successful consultancy business.

Having had over 20 years developing my own business from scratch, I know what it’s like to respond to the entrepreneurial urge to strike out on your own. The economy needs wealth creators with the vision to found tomorrows enterprises.
